FAQ

Q. I need help designing my garden - where do I start?

A garden design consultation is a good starting point because our advice can confirm the merits of your own approach or point out possible pitfalls, while you save the garden design fee for your landscaping project.

Q. Can I hire Cotter Landscape Contractors to carry out specific stand-aloneĀ” projects in my garden?

A Yes, our team of landscapers is available for any single component of your overall landscaping project for example patios, decking, planting, lawns, stone walling, water-features, driveways and garden lighting.

Q. Can you advise me on planting for my garden?

Yes, we can offer a garden consultation in which we can draw up a list of suitable plants to suit your garden design or we can offer a planting plan which will represent the position of each plant in your garden.

Q. I need to get planning permission for increased parking in my driveway. How can you help?

We will acquire the appropriate planning pack from Ordnance Survey Ireland which will comprise of the relevant site and location maps. We will draw up the required elevations and proposed layout plans. We will fulfil, on your behalf, the requirements of the planning application form such as placement of site notice, notification in approved publications etc. and communicate with the local authority as required.

Q. Are water features only suitable for large gardens?

No. There is a wide range of water features which can be purchased or constructed on-site to suit even the smallest courtyard garden.

Q. Which do you recommend - Decking or Patios?

We value both. Decking provides a warmer, softer underfoot surface which is particularly adaptable to sloping sites. Decking, on balance and depending on the level of maintenance carried out, presents a more slippy surface than patios. Patios, particularly natural stone patios, offer qualities of agelessness and high aesthetic appeal with a lower maintenance requirement.

Q. I need to build a new boundary structure. What would you recommend?

Stone walling is our preferred boundary structure, however it is quite expensive and we also install fencing systems in hard and pressure-treated wood.

Q. What is your approach to garden lighting?

A We like to use garden lighting around our lawns, patios and decking to illuminate our planting and special features, in particular water features, rather than feature the fittings themselves. To achieve this, we supply a range of spotlights, wall lights and recessed l.e.d. fittings.
